Update on NetLimiter translations

Thursday, January 3, 2019 6:00:36 PM

Hello all,

This article is a brief report about NetLimiter translations.

8 months has passed since we opened online translation system. We had some expectations but we didn't have an idea how it will work in a real life. In this article we would like to share our experiences.

What has to be translated

All texts located in NetLimiter UI - The Client application. There are mostly very short texts (consisting of 1 or 2 words), full sentences are quite rare.

How the translation system works

It is very simple and straight-forward. All NetLimiter texts are in an online database. Translators access it using a web portal. They can start to translate text by text or they can filter the text when they are searching particular text.

The system allows them to export the translated text for testing on their machines. If they find that some text was translated incorrectly (this mostly happens when the translation is made out of context), they could simply look it up in the online system and rectify it.

We communicate with registered translators via email. We send them info about updates in text database (mostly when new texts were added) and sometimes we contact particular translators if users report problems with an accuracy of the translation to their native language.

How you can join/help

You can help to translate to your language by two means.

You can send us reports of incorrect or inaccurate translation or/and you can join the translators community yourselves.

100% translations

In 8 months awesome people were able to fully translate NetLimiter into 14 languages: Afrikaans, Chinese (Simplified), Czech, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese (Brazilian), Russian, Slovene, Spanish and Turkish.

These languages are currently available in NetLimiter or will be added very soon.

About 50% finished translations

Beside the languages above, work started on many others, but the translations were not completed.

These languages are: Arabic, Italian, Dutch, Hungarian, Chinese (Traditional), Croatian.

Works on many other languages has started, but didn't progress that much.

Rewards

We reward all translators with our huge THANKS. NetLimiter has more than 800 texts and it takes some effort to completely translate it and it would be more appropriate to reward people with something more than a humble thanks...

Besides our gratitude we reward most active translators with NetLimiter Pro licenses. Up to this day we rewarded every 100 (or so) translated texts with 1 NetLimiter Pro license (when someone translated 194 texts he received 2 NLPro licenses), but in the future we will start rewarding lower amounts of translated texts with NetLimiter Lite licenses in order to reward more of the translators.
